Question 1:

The community have expressed significant concerns regarding the perceived lack of consultation, insufficient information disclosure, unquantified financial decisions, and overall lack of transparency in Council's actions, particularly concerning agreements like the one with REX airlines and asset acquisitions such as the old grain depot.

What process would you implement to ensure adequate consultation with community, as well as ensuring financially prudent decisions are being made within the chamber?

Open and honest communication with the community is essential for positive outcomes. As a Councilor I have and if elected will continue to advocate for honest, open, transparent, and timely communication with the community.  I will be looking at our communication policy to ensure that it covers – what, when and how the Council communicates to the community. Every decision of Council has a financial implication and so therefore should be considered carefully.  I believe in thoroughly reading all information, engage in community consultation and asking the right questions to get enough information to make an informed financially prudent decision.

Question 2:

RCAT recognises the vital role that businesses play in our regional economy and community. With this in mind, we're keen to understand your vision and proposed strategies for supporting our local business community into the future. Could you outline specific initiatives or policies you plan to champion to support growth, innovation, and resilience among our local businesses.

Supporting local businesses and the economic development of the Maranoa is vitally important to the Region. If reelected I would be advocating for a refocus of Council towards supporting local business and economic development by looking at policies & initiatives that promote and support local buy. Support local business by looking at our infrastructure support eg is there enough car parking, is planning policy supporting business growth in the region.

Question 3:

As a councillor, the importance of having a well-defined set of personal values and ethics cannot be overstated. With this in mind, how do you intend to equip yourself with the necessary information and understanding to form your own position on important issues before voting? Additionally, what strategies do you have in mind to actively contribute within the chamber to ensure that decisions lead to impactful and beneficial outcomes for our communities?

As a current Councilor I have worked hard over the last 4 years to represent the community in an honest, open and transparent manner with the highest level of integrity, a strong independent voice and responsible decision-making.  If re-elected, I will commit to valuing people over politics!  I will continue to be thorough in my decision-making by reading all information, engage in community consultation and asking the right questions to get enough information to make an informed independent decision on behalf of the community.

Question 4:

Both RCAT and Maranoa Regional Council (through the APLNG Liveability Fund) have jointly invested significant funds and time over the past 12 months to support regional liveability initiatives.  We are keen to hear your perspective on enhancing liveability and attracting and retaining a local skilled workforce. In your view, what are the key strategies or initiatives that our local council can undertake and/or support to improve the overall quality of life for residents, while also making our region more attractive to workers and ensuring they choose to live local and remain within our communities.

I am passionate about the livability and sustainability of the Maranoa Region!  I truly believe the Maranoa is a great place to live, raise a family, invest and visit.  If reelected I would continue to advocate for increased investment for livability projects – such as housing initiatives with real solutions, access to childcare, parks and gardens, sport and recreation and youth initiatives to name a few. Working alongside community groups such as RCAT to support their initiatives regarding livability and staff retention.  Rebuild relationships with state and federal government to advocate for more investment in our region. I believe I have the passion and knowledge to work together with the community to achieve progressive and sustainable outcomes for the region. I am committed to addressing issues and challenges facing each community both large and small, by having a strong committed focus on local initiatives, practical solutions and strong community relationships.

So, give Joh another go! And I will work hard on your behalf so that the Maranoa is in a strong position to ensure our region has hope for a progressive and sustainable future for generations to come.
