Frequently Asked Questions
What is Procurement?
Procurement involves the process of selecting vendors, establishing payment terms, strategic vetting, selection, the negotiation of contracts and actual purchasing of goods. Procurement is concerned with acquiring (procuring) all of the goods, services and work that is vital to an organization.
What is Tendering?
Tendering means to invite bids for a project, that must be submitted within a finite deadline. For projects or procurement, most institutions have a well-defined tender process, as well as processes to govern the opening, evaluation and final selection of the vendors. This ensures that the selection process is fair and transparent. A tender document is a written invitation sent to potential suppliers of a good or service to inform them about the information required for the buyer to choose among them.
What is Pre-Qualifying and why should I do it?
Pre-qualifying is way of narrowing the field to only those who have the requisite ability to comply with the terms of the contract and the financial capability to undertake the work. Usually, once a company is pre-qualified it is then eligible to tender for that contract. It is a great advantage to be pre-qualified with certain companies that do a lot of work in the local area, so you are always going to be 'on the list' when relevent jobs are available.
What business types are they looking for?
Any business, big or small offering relevent goods or services can attempt pre-qualification, and it is presonal preference if you decide to go this route.
